ESD100 Helps Fund Westpark Tollway, Grand Parkway Direct Connections

Kris Parrent | November 5th, 2019

Fort Bend County Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers recently announced that the plans to construct direct connections from the Westpark Tollway to the Grand Parkway northbound have been accelerated by several years. Harris Fort Bend Emergency Services District No. 100 (ESD100) is proud to have helped fund this project through a dedicated sales tax revenue allocated to the Fort Bend County Assistance District No 1.

A critical component of emergency services is a timely response, and one of the most important factors in improving response times is improving the traffic mobility throughout the response district. On December 13, 2011, ESD100 and Fort Bend County entered into an agreement wherein ESD 100 agreed to allocate twenty-five percent (25%) of the local sales tax collected by the ESD in Fort Bend County Assistance District No. 1 (approximately $2,000,000 per year), to Fort Bend County to assist the County in the undertaking and funding of improvement projects.  These projects include but are not limited to the design, construction, maintenance and financing of frontage roads or access roads for the Westpark Tollway and the Grand Parkway, as well as connecting roadways thereto.  It was determined that the development of the projects would benefit ESD100 in terms of: (a) providing additional revenue with anticipated business development fostered by the County’s projects, and (b) enhancing the capacity of delivering emergency services by ESD100 to the community by virtue of the construction of the projects.

ESD100 is not involved in the planning of this project and cannot comment on the timeline or engineering decisions. We encourage you to direct any inquiries to Commissioner Meyers or the Fort Bend Grand Parkway Toll Road Authority.
